National Garden Bioblitz 2013 by David Fenwick
Carol and I are extremely pleased to announce that over a 24 hour period 1st-2nd June, that more than 190 species of animals and plants were recorded* in the 10m x 10m garden here at 84 Roscadghill Parc, as part of the National Garden Bioblitz weekend. It was a huge effort and sometimes a painful struggle but we did it! Over 190 species is over 36% of the total number of species ever recorded in the 1km x 1km Rosehill grid square that we are in, not bad at all for such a small garden in 24 hours.

The highlight of the day was all the flatworms that Carol and I found. Carol and I baited and flooded patches of ground the day before to improve our chances of seeing them and on the day we were able to find seven species that we'd previously recorded. They included Kontikia andersoni, Kontikia ventrolineata, Microplana scharffi, Microplana terrestris, Australopacifica coxii, Rhynchodemus sylvaticus and an undescribed alien flatworm species that has only been recorded from Cambridge and the Isles of Scilly.

Thanks go to Sally and Yssy Luker, Richard Comont and a few others that have helped in providing identifications.
